Day 15
Excerpts taken from the personal journal of Peter Lalonde
Thursday May 18, 2000 Toronto, Canada
'It's picture wrap for Rayford.' Those were the customary words the Ad uses when an actor is finished his portion of the film. And tonight Brad Johnson was also greeted with a loud and lengthy applause from the cast and crew of 'Left Behind-The Movie'. No one clapped harder and longer than me. This man is one class act and one fine actor.

Our final scene with Rayford was in the Pan Con cockpit tonight and it looked terrific. I was glad of that because the airplane set we used had an outdated cockpit and we spent many thousands of dollars to upgrade it.

We also spent a portion of our day back at New Hope church getting the scenes we missed due to the storm last week. As my wife Patti and I pulled out of the parking garage of our condo this morning to go to New Hope, guess what we're greeted with? Hail! I mean this is getting ridiculous. It should be seventy degrees up here by now and we are still very cool. The shoot at New Hope turned out very well and it was well worth going back to get those few moments that we missed. This meant that we also had a picture wrap for Chloe and Bruce today. Like Brad, Janaya and Clarence are wonderful people. Paul and I, and Bobby and Joe really enjoyed working with them and would do so again in a heart beat.

Well, more difficult weather here in Toronto. We had to change shooting schedules for today again. This is very expensive and complicated. Oh well, I still love making films. Just some days more than others.

Wait till you meet Dirk Burton. What a job Lisa Parasyn (our casting director) has done for us. Working with Andre van Heerden (our co-producer) and Vic Sarin (our director) they have done a terrific job of casting these roles. Looking at the book and then adapting the characters to the big screen is a real tough job and they have done it very well.

In the movie we've made Dirk a little paranoid to help bring the character to life. It is a bit of a change but I think you will like it. A couple of Buck's good lines to Dirk are:

'Cut it back to three cups a day? '

'One word: Prozac!'

It was a fun day of shooting with lots of enthusiasm on the set. We are now looking forward to our last two weeks. Hopefully the weather will improve but the forecast is not good. Looks like we will have to shuffle days again next week. $$$$$$$

We are still torn on the casting of Nicolae and Stonagal. The challenge has been the trade-off between having a 'star' and having the best possible actor for the role. Either choice is not always the right way to go. We have several options ahead of us and must decide in the next day or so.
